Chronic Pain and Your Emotions

Chronic pain can be very challenging to deal with both physically and emotionally. In fact, research studies have found that emotional distress (including symptoms of anxiety and depression) is so highly associated with chronic pain, it can be considered a normal or expected part of chronic pain.

Improving Communication with Your Partner

One of the most common complaints between partners in a romantic relationship is poor communication. Let's face it, communication is hard work and can be even more challenging in emotional situations. Ironically, it's often with just those people we love the most that we slip in our efforts to maintain clear and empathic communication. We may feel the need to defend our position, or even defend ourselves, when working through relationship issues. It's important to remember that you and your partner are on the same team!

Breathe easier: Quit Smoking

Tobacco use and addiction continues to be a major problem in the United States. Most people who smoke know all the reasons why they should quit and a large majority of them even say things like "I really should quit. I want to quit. I don't know how." Most smokers have attempted to quit at least once; it may take a few attempts to finally "kick the habit."

Counting Blessings Over the Holiday Season

December brings us right into a heavy holiday season with celebrations for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and New Year's Eve. For many, holidays seem to be a time of rushing around stores looking for "the perfect gift" or the "right" theme for a holiday party, and sometimes becoming more harried than happy, coping with hectic schedules and people everywhere. At such times, it can be easy to overlook the intent behind celebrating holidays.
